That means, though, that gone are all those things that used to make a sexual encounter such an exiting, because uncertain, event, and seeking such an event such a romantic adventure, risky and full of traps.
But why that name? Many historians of literature, immensely better equipped to find an answer than myself, have tried in vain to crack that mystery. Some have suggested that the choice is the sum of the numerical values of the letters in the poet’s name if written in Hebrew – perhaps an allusion, simultaneously, to the poet’s high stature in Poland’s struggle for liberation and the Jewish origin of the poet’s mother.
